I’ve been blessed to have been chosen to be a part of the most astounding, worldly African-American Sorority by the name of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Established by 22 innovative, courageous, collegiate women on January 13, 1913, on the campus of Howard University, our sorority is rooted deep in community aid, political empowerment and improving sisterhood. Each member’s path was different but our love is strong and pure. My sorority has brought so many wonderful women and lessons to my life and it continues to be such a blessing. So if you wouldn’t mind, I would like to share my “Ode to DST”.
Ode to DST
Her journey is long
But her strides are strong
Her message is clear to me
filled with community, education and sisterly glee
Oh amazing is she
She was watched long before she realized
Displaying what a WOMAN should be
A hard-working woman of the world
Oh Amazing is she
Oh Amazing is DST
“So hard to be a DELTA” she pleas
So hard to wear that crimson and creme, you see
So hard to overcome the ghosts of the past
But she makes it look easy to me
Oh Amazing is she
From Doctors to Lawyers
To Teachers and Queens
From the roots of segregation and civil rights walks
To Fortitude around the corner from the historic Presidency
She is nothing but Amazing
She IS DST
Happy Centennial my Sorors of the amazing DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY INCORPORATED!
Ooo-ooop!
