*Y-Not: Diversify your Exercise – For the love of Yoga!

downwarddogSo I have finally joined the yogie nation. Twice a week at Crossfit Around the Corner, I take the pressure and exhaustion from my job and release it through the motions and thoughts of yoga. I have to admit that I once fought the idea of holding poses and breathing  as a successful mode of exercise but Yoga is more than just poses and breathing it’s releasing your stress and freeing my mind. Yoga provokes the calmness that we all need every now and then. The breathing techniques allow you to take in not only the muscles you are engaging but the serene atmosphere that you are experiencing.

warrior twoMy favorite class right now is Vinyasa also known as flow yoga. We move continuously in and out of poses, really focusing on lengthening our muscles and deep conscious breathing, or ujjayi, through “discomfort”. Just the other day we did head stands and it was intense but my core was engaged and it was exciting. My favorite part of Yoga is the Savasana period where we allow our workout to sink into our bodies while resting in the corpse pose. It may also be my favorite time seeing that I can get a little five minute nap in.childspose

Yoga truly takes you to a place of peace and I recommend that we all test it out. It may seem hard at the beginning but in the end you really feel rejuvenated and ready to take on the world.

Vinyasa yoga is my favorite too. I love hot vinyasa the best. I also really like restorative yoga too.

I have yet to do hot vinyasa but they just started offering that class so I’ll definitely try it out. Thanks for reading!
